It is official...CU Soccer is bloggin!

We are well aware of all the social media trends such as Facebookin and Tweetin, that we decided that the next step for CU Soccer is bloggin!  So, for all of our faithful Buffaloes Weekly Update readers, first of all, we thank you, and we hope that you will continue following our program through our blog.

We have a new season ahead of us with a few exciting changes that our program, and our University are undergoing.  The biggest, which you probably already know, is our move into the Pac-12 Conference.  We welcome the new challenge with open arms, and as we embark on this new adventure, we hope to share with you our experiences through this blog.  We hope to give you an inside look into our program with blogs by our current players and coaches, as well as keeping you updated with our team on and off the field!

So, let's catch you up...

We are wrapping up our 2011 preseason camp, and it's been one of the most physically and mentally demanding preseasons we've had in quite awhile.  With 16 returning players, we add 6 new faces to the program, Bianca Jones, Carly Bolyard, Rebecca Boggs, Darcy Jerman, Clare Madden, and Storie Ledger.  These players have endured over 2 weeks of two-a-day trainings, combined with over 20 - 120 yard sprints, which were done at minimum 10 at a time, as well as countless 300 yard shuttles, 25 yard suicide shuttles and more.  And just when they thought they couldn't give one more, they did.

We even had a "nice" (and I say nice loosely) team hike up to the Royal Arch in the Flatirons of Boulder, Colorado.  Once we reached the top, the view was amazing and rewarding for us to spend a few moments to take it all in.

Well, we got our first glimpse of the team on Friday, August 12th as we made our way down to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to compete in an exhibition match against the Falcons.  After a short lightning delay, we played 3 - 30 minute periods.  Sophomore Anne Stuller scored a nice goal from a ball driven in by senior Kate Russell, and junior Kayla Millar recorded a shutout that evening.  So, we left with the result that we wanted, but more importantly, it was a great opportunity for our staff to see our players compete as we prepare for the start of our regular season.

And so that brings you up to speed to this moment in time for your Colorado Buffaloes.  We open up our 2011 season with Colorado College on Friday, August 19th at 4:30pm (at DU) and the University of Northern Colorado on Sunday, August 21st at 3pm in our first annual Colorado Cup.

The Colorado Cup has been a vision and dream of head coach Bill Hempen, and over the last year, he has made it happen.  The Colorado Cup is a weekend event between the University of Denver, Colorado College, University of Northern Colorado, and your Colorado Buffaloes.  Essentially, there will be 4 games played and a winner based on a point system of wins and goals.  At the end of the weekend, a champion will emerge and one Colorado program will raise the cup!

We hope to CU there!  And as always, don't forget to click on the link below to see this season's first show of This Week in Colorado Soccer with head coach Bill Hempen and interviews with freshman Carly Bolyard and junior Amy Barczuk.
